On Friday we made a trip to our storage unit to retrieve my Baking with Julia Childs cookbook. I packed up most of my cookbooks so we could turn my office into a playroom – made sense at the time and the room gets way more attention than it did before. But that meant I had to put some things in storage, since I am NOT going to part with my cookbooks. Most of them have a story or some family history that goes with them.
Any who, Easter Sunday… In the cookbook is a recipe for Pecan Sticky Buns – it’s quite a process (5 ½ pages), but so worth it!! You really have to plan ahead if you are going to make these. The recipe uses a brioche dough, which is a ton of butter folded into a yeast dough resulting in a light and airy, melt in your mouth pastry.
Sausage Cheese Balls
I usually just wing it when it comes to sausage balls, but I thought I should at least try the recipe. This recipe goes back to the Betty Crocker Lost Recipes book that I spoke of last month. I usually don’t put quite as much Bisquick in my version – these resulted in more of a sausage biscuit. Very good and if I had made cream gravy, that would have been a bonus! I like my way better, which is to add enough Bisquick to make the sausage a little drier and more formable – like I said, I just wing it! Here’s the recipe and different points in the process:
Finally, it was time to eat! The buffet was a line-up of Pecan Sticky Buns (the star of the show), Sausage Cheese Balls, Kroger’s Private Selection Mini Croissants, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, and Fruit. We didn’t eat for the rest of the day after the carbfest we had for brunch!!
